Mountain View, CA
DescriptionAbout this Role
Lightmatter builds chips that enable extreme-scale artificial intelligence computing clusters. If you're a collaborative engineer or scientist who has a passion for innovation, solving challenging technical problems and doing impactful work like building the world's first optical computers, consider joining the team at Lightmatter!

In this role as a part of the product engineering team you will be focused on High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) testing, developing novel wafer and package level testing strategies of Lightmatter’s novel laser products. You will also help in setting up validation capabilities and carrying out validation tests. You will be expected to support customer deployment and related technical issues.

Responsibilities
-Work closely with architecture, design, product engineering, and external vendors to understand expected component capabilities and testing needs.
-Identify challenges and close the design feedback loop with early prototyping and feasibility studies to optimize performance.
-Develop and implement test protocols to evaluate and compare different engineering approaches.
-Maintain testing equipment and develop automations to improve efficiency.
-Analyze test data, document results, and provide feedback to the development team.
-Document and communicate (orally and in written form) methodologies, data, and analyses.
-Bring-up of laser test equipment and laser modules.
-Measure impact of laser on performance of data links such as BERT and OSNR.
-Must be able to travel to Palo Alto
RequirementsQualifications -Master’s in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field -3-6 years of experience as a laser test engineer -Experience in characterization of lasers and SOAs, including measurements of the optical spectrum, noise characterization, thermal dependence and reliability -Experience in die-level, board-level, and wafer-scale testing. -Experience working with test equipment including benchtop lasers, VNA, switches, OSA, ESA, BERT, optical and electrical spectrum analyzers, high speed oscilloscopes (DCA), source-meter units, reference transmitters, and receivers -Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or LabView for test automation. -Strong analytical and problem solving skills to identify and solve issues during the testing process. -Ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders with clear communication. Preferred Qualifications -PhD in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field -2+ years of experience as a laser test engineer -Laser Test HW/fixture development experience is highly desirable. -Experience testing packaged laser modules and/or transceivers for datacom applications. -Experience working in HVM environment from NPI to mass production. -Experience bringing up lab equipment and experimental setups for testing lasers/SOAs.
Company DescriptionLightmatter is leading the revolution in AI data center infrastructure, enabling the next giant leaps in human progress. The company invented the world’s first 3D-stacked photonics engine, Passage™, capable of connecting thousands to millions of processors at the speed of light in extreme-scale data centers for the most advanced AI and HPC workloads. Lightmatter raised $400 million in its Series D round, reaching a valuation of $4.4 billion. We will continue to accelerate the development of data center photonics and grow every department at Lightmatter! If you're passionate about tackling complex challenges, making an impact, and being an expert in your craft, join our team of brilliant scientists, engineers, and accomplished industry leaders. Lightmatter is (re)inventing the future of computing with light!
