Dr. Ramanan Sankaran is a Distinguished R&D staff at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) and leads the Multiscale Materials Group within the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division (CSED) at ORNL. He develops and applies HPC numerical simulation tools to explore novel concepts in energy conversion, utilization, materials and manufacturing. Dr. Sankaran and his group perform cooperative research and development with several companies, large and small, across multiple industry segments. They use some of the most powerful computers in the world, such as the HPC systems in the DOE complex, including Frontier, for their scientific and engineering research. Dr. Sankaran received his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
