Biography
Moetasim (Moet) Ashfaq is a scientist in the Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). He is an atmospheric physicist with a background in physics and atmospheric science. His research focuses on understanding the mechanisms regulating Earth system processes across spatiotemporal scales. Ashfaq is an expert in using global and regional Earth system models to understand past, present, and future climate fluctuations and their impact on natural and human systems. Furthermore, he leads the high-resolution regional Earth system modeling and sub-seasonal to seasonal predictability efforts at ORNL. He is also a part of the team developing Oak Ridge AI-based foundation model for Earth system predictability.
