Biography
Bryan Johnston is a senior technologist at the Centre for High Performance Computing, South Africa. He is involved in several research projects, primarily relating to HPC education and training, and is also involved in international projects (CERN ALICE) and regional HPC initiatives. He leads the HPC Ecosystems Project, focused on redistributing first-tier HPC infrastructure to smaller, usually resource-constrained, institutions throughout the Southern African Development Community region, with clusters currently in more than 35 sub-Saharan sites. His team deploys the physical systems and shared software stack and trains users and system administrators (in many cases, this is the site’s first HPC system).
