Biography
Carlos Jaime Barrios Hernandez holds a PhD in computer science from the Université Côte d'Azur and a master's degree in applied mathematics and computer science from the Université Grenoble Alpes, both in France, and a systems engineering degree from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS) in Bucaramanga, Colombia. He has taught advanced computing and science courses for more than 20 years in different countries and at various levels. He is a founder of the SC-Camp (www.sc-camp.org) and various training tutorials held at conferences and outreach events. Carlos is currently the general coordinator of the Advanced Computing System for Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC) and director of Supercomputing and Scientific Calculation of the UIS (SC3UIS). With more than 20 years of experience in high-performance computing (HPC) and advanced computing in general, he participates in research projects as well as industrial initiatives and global alliances that involve HPC, future computing architectures (including AI and quantum computing), and scientific computing, without forgetting sustainability and social impact. This participation allows him to improve formal and non-formal courses and training; for example, he is involved with the NVIDIA DLI Academia as an instructor, with the ICTP UNESCO courses, and the TWAS UNESCO Digitial Campus. Carlos is a senior member of the ACM SIGHPC and the IEEE Computer Society, an associate professor in the Informatics and Systems Engineering School at UIS, and an adjoint professor at the University of the Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
