Biography
Giuseppe Barca is an expert in interdisciplinary research at the intersection of high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence (AI), and digital chemistry. He has led key HPC initiatives involving top universities, supercomputing centers, and IT companies across Australia and the U.S. Notably, he spearheaded Australia’s contribution to the U.S. Department of Energy’s Exascale Computing Project, advancing computational chemistry software for exascale supercomputers. Currently, he leads a project with the Pawsey Centre to enhance Australia’s HPC capabilities in molecular modeling. His research focuses on creating HPC algorithms and AI-driven quantum mechanical software to accelerate the discovery of novel therapeutics, catalysts, and materials. In 2023, he co-founded QDX Technologies, a deep-tech firm that leverages high-performance quantum chemistry and AI software to achieve unprecedented accuracy in the virtual design of novel therapeutics. A/Prof. Barca was nominated as one of The Australian’s Top 250 Researchers of 2024.
