As the HPC CTO, Alan Powers maintains awareness of industry technology trends and provides engineering leadership for GDIT’s HPC deployments. Major accomplishments at the NASA Advanced Supercomputing division began with the installation of Project Columbia in 2004 as the second fastest system on the top500. He leads the effort to deploy the next HPC system, Pleiades, in 2008 as the third fastest system in the world. In 2010, Alan was Chief HPC Architect supported NOAA in their HPC infrastructure with three major HPC installations. And in 2020, he led the effort deploying NOAA’s largest HPC operational systems with 99% uptime.
