Biography
Idelfonso Tafur Monroy is a full Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Eindhoven University of Technology leading the Quantum and Terahertz Systems group. He is principal investigator in the Center for Quantum Materials and Technology Eindhoven, Center for Photonics Integration and the Center for Terahertz Science and Technology , all being part of the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute.

In the Dutch Quantum Delta Growth fund he is leading the activities on system-on-chip development for quantum key distribution transponders and establishing the testbed for Quantum Communications. His research interests cover integrated quantum photonic systems-on-chip such, converged electronic-photonic integrated circuits for applications Terahertz Systems for Communication and Sensing. He is co-author of over 500 journal and conference papers and has graduated 25 PhD students. He is co-founder of the start-up Bifrost Communications on optical fiber access solutions.

He studied at the Kharkov Polytechnic Institute in Ukraine, received a M.Sc from the Bonch-Bruevitch Institute of Communications, St. Petersburg, Russia, holds a Technology Licentiate degree in telecommunications theory from the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, and a PhD degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology. He was Professor in photonics communications at Technical University of Denmark, guest Professor at the Beijing University of Post and Telecommunications, visiting scientist at the University of California at Berkeley and Fellowship Professor at the ITMO University in St Petersburg. He is senior member of IEEE and OSA and he is recipient of the Colombian Order of Merit in the Grade of Knight.
