SUMMARY:Power Patterns: Understanding the Energy Dynamics of I/O for Paral
 lel Storage Configurations
DESCRIPTION:Maya Purohit (University of Chicago, Colby College) and Valeri
e Hayot-Sasson and Kyle Chard (University of Chicago)\n\nAs HPC applicatio
ns become more I/O intensive, understanding their power consumption patter
ns is necessary to develop energy-saving solutions. Here, we evaluate the
energy consumption of I/O operations on two popular HPC parallel file syst
ems: Lustre and DAOS. We develop models to predict the energy usage of seq
uential writes and evaluate their accuracy against our gathered benchmarks
. Our models can be used to enhance the accuracy of energy-predicting fram
eworks by allowing them to consider storage configuration when estimating
total energy consumption.\n\nRegistration Category: Tech Program Reg Pass,
Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Ayesha Afzal (Friedrich-Alexander-Un
iversität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Erlangen National High Performance Computing
Center); Sally Ellingson (University of Kentucky); and Alan Sussman (Unive
 rsity of Maryland)\n\n
