SUMMARY:JACC: HPC Meta-Programming and Performance Portability Ecosystem f
 or Julia Language
DESCRIPTION:Pedro Valero-Lara, William Godoy, Het Mankad, Keita Teranishi,
and Jeffrey Vetter (Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL))\n\nWe present J
ACC (Julia for ACCelerators), the first high-level, meta-programming, and
performance-portable model for the just-in-time and LLVM-based Julia langu
age. JACC provides a unified and lightweight front end across different ba
ck ends available in Julia, enabling the same Julia code to run efficientl
y on many CPU and GPU targets. We evaluated the performance of JACC for co
mmon HPC kernels as well as for the most computationally demanding kernels
used in applications such as HARVEY, a blood flow simulator to assist in
the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from vascular diseases.
We carried out the performance analysis on the most advanced U.S. DOE supe
rcomputers: Aurora, Frontier, and Perlmutter. Overall, we show that JACC h
as a negligible overhead versus vendor-specific solutions, reporting GPU s
peedups over the CPU implementations with no extra cost.\n\nRegistration C
ategory: Tech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Ayesh
 a Afzal (Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg; Erlangen Nati
onal High Performance Computing Center); Sally Ellingson (University of Ke
ntucky); and Alan Sussman (University of Maryland)\n\n
