SUMMARY:Cluster-Based Methodology for Characterizing the Performance of Po
 rtable Applications
DESCRIPTION:Befikir Bogale (University of Tennessee, Knoxville); Olga Pear
ce and Tom Scogland (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)); and M
ichela Taufer (University of Tennessee, Knoxville)\n\nThis work focuses on
performance portability and proposes a methodological approach to assessi
ng and explaining how different kernels behave across various hardware arc
hitectures using the RAJA Performance Suite (RAJAPerf). Our methodology le
verages metrics from the Intel top-down pipeline and clustering techniques
to sort the kernels based on performance characteristics. We assess the m
ethodology on 54 RAJAPerf computational kernels on Intel Xeon and NVIDIA V
100 platforms. Our results confirm the effectiveness of our methodology in
automatically characterizing performance differentials and speedups, part
icularly in memory-bound kernels.\n\nRegistration Category: Tech Program R
eg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Ayesha Afzal (Friedrich-Alex
ander University, Erlangen-Nuremberg; Erlangen National High Performance C
omputing Center); Sally Ellingson (University of Kentucky); and Alan Sussm
 an (University of Maryland)\n\n
