SUMMARY:Collatz Residuals
DESCRIPTION:Sadie Bartholomew (National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NC
AS), UK; University of Reading, England)\n\nThe image is generated wholly
from code written in Python (version 3.11.5) using the visualization libra
ry "matplotlib" (version 3.8.3) to programmatically and procedurally defin
e the design. This underlying code has, along with the generated output de
sign, been open-sourced under the CC BY 4.0 license and is available to vi
ew from a public GitHub repository, "high-res-art" under the artist's pers
 onal space (https://github.com/sadielbartholomew/high-res-art/blob/main/co
llatz_hi_res.py). High-performance computing was indispensable towards ref
ining the parameters encoding the precise design, in particular the transl
ation factors and set of hex-triplet color codes defining the background a
nd marker colors, through batch processing of configurations of the parame
ters starting from exploratory values, followed by inspection of the gener
ated outcomes and honing in on parameter sets producing promising outcomes
in several iterations until finally this design emerged as a visual favor
ite. Specifically, the Slurm workload manager was used for such batch comp
uting on the UK's JASMIN supercomputer.\n\nRegistration Category: Tech Pro
gram Reg Pass, Workshop Reg Pass, Tutorial Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\n
