SUMMARY:Building a Global Data Streaming Community: Lessons Learnt, Potent
ial Tools, Challenges and Opportunities — The European and U.S. Ecosystems
Address the Latest Paradigm Shift Towards Global Data Streaming in Large
 Data Systems
DESCRIPTION:Hans-Christian Hoppe (ETP4HPC, the European HPC Technology Pla
tform; ParTec AG, Germany); Mike Little (Navteca in the Computational and
Information Sciences and Technology Office (CISTO) at NASA Goddard Spacefl
ight Center, NASA); Ioan Hadade (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather
Forecasts (ECMWF)); Damien Gratadour (Observatoire de Paris, Director of E
CLAT (Extreme Computing Lab for Astronomical Telescopes), member of SKA-Fr
ance); and Laurent Morin (University of Rennes, France; The french laborat
ory for research and innovation in digital science and technology (IRISA))
\n\nData streaming is a proven, widely used technique. It’s not commonly u
sed in HPC yet, but it can support critical applications with high societa
l and scientific impact. This BoF examines use cases like Destination Eart
h, Large Hadron Collider, Square Kilometre Array, Exa-AToW, and Earth syst
ems digital twins by NASA, and discusses how to make streaming of measurem
ent/sensor or simulation data useful in the context of such large, data-or
iented initiatives, which all critically rely on HPC infrastructures.\n\nT
he aim is starting a global HPC Data Streaming Community to examine lesson
s learnt, adapt data streaming approaches and drive integration with HPC s
ystems.\n\nRegistration Category: Tech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass
