SUMMARY:Bridging the Data Gaps to Democratize AI R&D
DESCRIPTION:İlkay Altıntaş (San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC); Univers
ity of California, San Diego, Halicioglu Data Science Institute); Manish P
arashar (University of Utah); Melissa Floca (University of California San
Diego); Ian Foster (Argonne National Laboratory (ANL)); Julia Lane (New Yo
rk University (NYU)); and Brian Bockelman (Morgridge Institute for Researc
h)\n\nAI needs data to learn and make decisions. Building and using AI req
uires access to massive amounts of data and computing power. Consequently,
democratizing the AI R&D ecosystem requires democratizing access to AI-re
ady data and the ability to process this data. However, fair, open, and eq
uitable access to these resources remains challenging. This session will d
iscuss the many dimensions of democratizing data. It will then introduce k
ey related efforts and facilitate an open discussion about how these and o
ther efforts can come together as part of an open data ecosystem that ensu
res all researchers can participate in AI R&D.\n\nRegistration Category: T
ech Program Reg Pass, Exhibits Reg Pass\n\n
