SUMMARY:Federated Single Sign-On and Zero Trust Co-design for AI and HPC D
 igital Research Infrastructures
DESCRIPTION:Sadaf R. Alam, Christopher Woods, and Matt Williams (Universit
y of Bristol, England)\n\nScientific workflows have become highly heteroge
neous leveraging distributed facilities such as HPC, Artificial Intelligen
ce (AI), Machine Learning (ML), scientific instruments (data-driven pipeli
nes) and edge computing. As a result, Identity and Access Management (IAM)
and Cybersecurity challenges across the diverse hardware and software sta
cks are growing. Nevertheless, scientific productivity relies on lowering
access barriers via seamless, single sign-on and federated login while ens
uring access controls and compliance. We present an implementation of a fe
derated\nIAM solution, which is coupled with multiple layers of security c
 ontrols, multi-factor authentication, cloud-native protocols, and time-lim
ited role-based access controls (RBAC) that has been\nco-designed and depl
oyed for the Isambard-AI and HPC supercomputing Digital Research Infrastru
ctures (DRIs) in the UK.\nIsambard DRIs as a national research resource ar
e expected\nto comply with regulatory frameworks. Implementation details\n
for monitoring, alerting and controls are outlined in the paper\nalongside
selected user stories for demonstrating IAM workflows\nfor different role
s.\n\nTag: Applications and Application Frameworks, Artificial Intelligenc
