SUMMARY:HPC with Enhanced User Separation
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Prout, Albert Reuther, Michael Jones, Michael Houle, Pe
ter Michaleas, and Jeremy Kepner (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M
IT), Lincoln Laboratory)\n\nHPC systems used for research run a wide varie
ty of software and workflows. This software is often written or modified b
y users to meet the needs of their research projects, and rarely is built
with security in mind. In this paper we explore several of the key techniq
ues that MIT Lincoln Laboratory Su- percomputing Center has deployed on it
s systems to manage the security implications of these workflows by provid
ing enforced separation for processes, filesystem access, network traffic,
and accelerators to make every user feel like they are running on a perso
nal HPC.\n\nTag: Applications and Application Frameworks, Artificial Intel
ligence/Machine Learning, Security\n\nRegistration Category: Workshop Reg
Pass\n\nSession Chairs: Nael Abu-Ghazaleh (University of California, River
side); Kevin J. Barker (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)); Yan
g Guo (National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)); Joseph Manz
ano (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)); Andres Marquez (Pacifi
c Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL)); and Sean Peisert (Lawrence Berkel
ey National Laboratory (LBNL); University of California, Davis)\n\n
