SUMMARY:A case study for using Chapel within the global aerospace industry
DESCRIPTION:Kate Rasmuseen (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) and Eri
c Laurendeau (Polytechnique Montreal, École Polytechnique Montréal)\n\nOne
of the most mathematically challenging tasks within the aerospace industr
y is the design of the aircraft aerodynamics. Indeed, the various aerodyna
mic physical models involve non-linear partial differential equations of a
ll types : elliptic, parabolic and hyperbolic. These are solved using Comp
utational Fluid Dynamics, and require High-Performance Computing when solv
ing for million/billion unknowns. The presentation will cover advances in
the fidelity of aerodynamic models and applications to aerothermodynamic m
odels towards ice accretion. In particular, it will highlight the use of t
he Chapel language in the main holistic solver within Prof. Laurendeau’s a
erodynamic laboratory.\n\nTag: Heterogeneous Computing, Parallel Programmi

a National Laboratories), Irene Moulitsas (Cranfield University), Elliott
