SUMMARY:Navigating Exascale Operational Data Analytics: From Inundation to
  Insight
DESCRIPTION:Woong Shin, Tim Osborne, Ahmad Maroof Karimi, Rachel Palumbo,
Alex May, Corwin Lester, Jesse Hines, Naw Safrin Sattar, Leah Huk, Scott S
immerman, Wesley Brewer, Jeffrey Miller, Ryan Adamson, Olga Kuchar, Ryan P
rout, Feiyi Wang, Scott Atchley, and Sarp Oral (Oak Ridge National Laborat
ory (ORNL))\n\nIn this paper, we address the challenges in achieving susta
inable data-driven efficiency by providing a detailed exploration of the e
nd-to-end operational data analytics (ODA) framework that evolved through
two generations of supercomputer systems at the Oak Ridge Leadership Compu
ting Facility (OLCF). This framework addresses large data streams ingested
from heavily instrumented HPC environment that accumulates multi-terabyte
s per day. We outline the multifaceted data life cycle across HPC procurem
ent, operations, and research & development, identifying key obstacles and
design decisions that shape effective strategies in building and supporti
ng data pipelines end-to-end.\nBy sharing key insights and lessons learned
from our experience, we offer recommendations for the HPC community on en
abling sustainable operational data analytics and beyond.\nOur contributio
ns aim to bridge the gap between potential and real benefits of operationa
l data, guiding future efforts towards integrated and sustainable operatio
nal intelligence in high-performance computing environments.\n\nTag: Energ
