SUMMARY:Ensemble Simulations on Leadership Computing Systems
DESCRIPTION:Antigoni Georgiadou, Henry Monge-Camacho, Tanvir Sohail, and S
warnava Ghosh (Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL)); Arjun Valiya Paramba
thu (University of Delaware); and Dilipkumar Asthagiri, Dmytro Bykov, Tush
ar Athawale, and Thomas Beck (Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL))\n\nSci
entific productivity can be enhanced through workflow management tools, re
lieving large High Performance Computing (HPC) system users from the tedio
us tasks of scheduling and designing the complex computational execution o
f scientific applications. This paper presents a study on the usage of ens
emble workflow tools to accelerate science using the Summit and Frontier s
upercomputing systems. The research aims to connect science domain simulat
ions using Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility (OLCF) platforms with e
nsemble workflow methods to boost scientific impact. We present the coupli
ng, porting and optimization of Radical-Cybertools on simulations. The too
ls augment traditional HPC monolithic runs with a pilot scheduler. We disc
uss intrinsic limitations of coupling and porting ensemble workflow tools
to applications that run\non large HPC systems. The origins of technical c
hallenges and their solutions developed during the implementation process
are discussed. Data management strategies, OLCF’s policies for ensembles,
and natively supported workflow tools are also summarized.\n\nTag: Applica
