SUMMARY:Private and Equitable Access for Large-Scale Systems
DESCRIPTION:Ana Luisa Veroneze Solórzano, Devesh Tiwari, and Rohan Basu Ro
y (Northeastern University) and Benjamin Schwaller, Sara Petra Walton, and
Jim M. Brandt (Sandia National Laboratories)\n\nLarge-scale systems colle
ct enormous amounts of data and metadata about users located around the gl
obe. Access to such systems faces regulatory, political, economic, and tec
hnological barriers, while privacy constraints prevent data sharing. We di
scuss operational practices for redesigning private and equitable HPC flow
s where privacy can serve utility. We explore anonymization techniques in
the HPC context and discuss challenges in incorporating them into large-sc
ale systems. We refer to current data protection regulations to address da
ta transparency, processing, and management responsibilities for systems a
 dministrators.\n\nTag: Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Broader E
ngagement, HPC in Society\n\nRegistration Category: Workshop Reg Pass\n\nS
ession Chairs: Javier Gomez-Lavin (Purdue University, University of Pittsb
urgh); Nathaniel Kremer-Herman (Seattle University, Hanover College); Jay
Lofstead (Sandia National Laboratories, University of New Mexico); Jakob L
uettgau (French Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation
(INRIA)); Elaine M. Raybourn (Sandia National Laboratories); and William S
 chonbein (Sandia National Laboratories)\n\n
